and jumps. the one in the west has brought down the cooler temperatures through central california to southern portions of nevada. 48 right now in san francisco while 70 in phoenix. it won't last through the weekend. this culprit, this upper level low spinning over northern california, bringing rain showers to lower elevations and snowshowers, even moderate bursts of snow through the central and northern portions of the sierra. in the northwest we're okay. they're getting nailed in the northern rockies, the plume of moisture ahead of the storm system. winter storm warnings through all the mountains of utah and through montana where there's blizzard warnings in areas of northern portions of the state. notice in san diego, there's even a winter storm warning. as far as the snow totals expected, the northern portions of rockies is the bull's eye. the forecast is unsettled out periods of clouds and showers on and off throughout the day. >>> through the weekend this dips all the way down through even san diego, hopefully should clear out by sunday. >>> than. cia director petraeus on ben

arrested, 49-year-old jeffrey mcgann from southern california. police say he was boarding an airplane headed to lax. a tsa person spotted the watch. it looked like it contained bomb-making material. police say it had a circuit board inside the watch but it was not a bomb, and there's a lot of other things that made this man and this watch suspicious. >> it was a one-day turn around flight so he's out and back within a day. he was wearing a military-style shirt that has aç tourniquet built into it so if you receive a traumatic injury to your arm you can tighten the tourniquet and it will stop the bleeding. not a common item for civilians to wear. >> reporter: police also tell us tonight that mcgann was wearing unusual shoes, work boots with a removable sole inside and they were also two sizes too big. all of this considered evidence, police say, that mcgann considered himself an artist and he says that the watch was art. he is also being held at the sana'a rita jail. >> just a little odd. thank you very much, cheryl. >>> well, now that the bay area is on storm watch. we'v

at the two storms. this first one will continue to go across the californias, we move through the afternoon. we are going to see a bit of a break, maybe a bit of sun and then for the second half this system will start to pull in. let me show you what i'm talking about. scattered shower this morning. expect the slick roads, by noontime we have mainly cloud conditions but we are mainly dry. we have the break, we have rain and snow at the sierra but the elevation very high with the snow above 7,000 feet. by sunset, 5:00 we have the rain pulling in once again. this is the second system moving in to the north bay. if you have evening plans it's going to be wet. over the central bay by 7:00 and in to the south bay by 10. in the overnight it starts to push out. tomorrow morning, sunday 8:00. mainly dry and sunday will be cooler than today but we will be again mainly dry for sunday. the winds right now 14 miles an hour in oakland. 16 in san jose. temperatures, mild. relatively speaking. we are have upper 50s, low 60s outside outside the door right now. 60 degrees for mountain view. 57 santa rose

, california. the other thing, of course, we're following is all of the severe reports right here in the bay area. lightning early this morning in san francisco and oakland. multiple strike there's. even hail that covered parts of 101. i drove through that right through the san francisco airport. and there was a multiple car accident. dangerous. and winds atop 40 miles per hour with at least 900 outages at its peak this morning. also, some very rare snow down to about 2500 feet at mt. hamilton. that's at the elevation of 4,360 feet. let's show you some of these pictures. you can see not only the snow, but the roads very icy as it provided a light dusting. officially only 1 inch reported. but in some areas slightly higher accumulations. none the less, it looks really beautiful up there. and a signal that we are finally getting the weather pattern to change. you can see a few hours of showers developing off to the south. we are going to be tracking that, along with the very cold temperatures gripping the bay area. we're going to be near record-setting lows. i'll have details on that in my full

. this cloud coverage will continue towards northern california. and this continues from the northern california region. we will not see rainfall but it will be lingering. overnight temperatures will be just a little bit warmer with the futurecast showing in the 40's for the 7:00 a.m. our. i'd think we could even see 30's. by noon, we could see widespread 60s. we will see more of the 70's in the north bay. however, taking a look at the north bay temperatures we will see even 30's and it happened, and vallejo. and in-napa toward 49 degrees in san francisco.
